Sports News

At St. Paul's, we value physical activity through P.E, active break times and out of school opportunities. Children are offered after school sports clubs throughout the year. We attend competitions held by Sport Development and the West Oldham Sports Cluster. We also seek other competitive opportunities such as local football leagues, netball leagues and make links with clubs for other sports such as cricket.

She will now represent Oldham in the Greater Manchester Cross Country Championship next year. Well done Katie!

As part of our membership of OACT, we have the opportunity to play on the pitch at half time in an Oldham Athletic match. We did this during the match with Yeovil Town, winning against Delph Primary School 2-1. We also gave Stanley in Yr 5 the opportunity to be a mascot for the match too.

PE and Sport Report for 2023.2024

2023-2024 has seen an increase in participation in sports fixtures.

We participate as a school in the Hathershaw Cluster competitions (Sport Development), opportunities provided by Oldham Athletic Community Trust and the Oldham Football and Netball Leagues.

There are 20 schools in the Hathershaw Cluster and there is one competition per week. All age groups have a competition organised for them across the term.

This year:

  • KS1 children have taken part in orienteering, multi-skills and dance events.
  • Year 3&4 have taken part in orienteering, football, athletics, multi-skills, dance, archery, tag rugby and cricket competitions.
  • Year 5&6 have taken part in football, athletics, dodgeball, handball, tag rugby, dance, archery and netball competitions.

We have taken part in the Oldham Schools football and netball leagues and have played in tournaments organised by OACT (for football) and England Netball.

Children from Yr 5&6 were given the opportunity to play on the pitch at half time in the Oldham Athletic v Eastleigh match.

Clubs for children in KS2 in netball and rounders.

OACT have provided clubs for children from Yr 1-6 in football.

Miss. Martland has provided a general sports club for children from Yr 1-6. including gymnatstics.

Mrs Wood has provided dance lessons across the school linked to their topical learning in class.

Children in Yr 6 have been trained in leadership and have led physical activity for children across school at lunchtimes. Children in Yr 5 are currently training to be a sports captain next year.

Health Champions have attended workshops and provided healthy body-healthy mind activities throughout school. They organised a successful ‘walk to school’ week with incentives for children to participate and prizes for the winning classes.

The sports council have planned and organised sports week with an Olympic theme. Children have been allocated teams based on Spanish speaking countries to link with Spanish week.

We have had training for the whole staff provided by OACT three times throughout the year.

Last year, we achieved our 5th School Games Gold Award in a row which enabled us to apply for a Platinum School Games Mark. We were successful in this application and were one of only two schools in Oldham to achieve Platinum. This lasts for two years then we will apply for Gold again and if successful apply to maintain our Platinum status.
